Description
Introduction
The Alarm Valve Model H is a fundamental component of automatic wet pipe fire sprinkler systems. It is engineered to perform two critical functions: acting as a check valve to prevent backflow and serving as a mechanical alarm trigger. Built from high-strength ductile iron, this valve is designed for vertical installation and provides a robust gateway for water to enter the sprinkler network during an emergency.
Key Features
High strength Ductile Iron ASTM A536 construction for maximum durability
Maximum service pressure of 250 psi (17.5 kg/cm.sq) for heavy duty applications
Epoxy painted both internally and externally for superior corrosion resistance
Includes variable pressure trim with a retard chamber to prevent false alarms
Complete with a water motor gong for audible hydraulic alarm notification
Versatile end connections including flanged and grooved options for easy fitting
UL Listed and FM Approved for verified safety and performance standards
Benefits
This valve significantly increases the safety of your building by providing immediate notification the moment a sprinkler head is activated. The inclusion of the retard chamber is a crucial benefit as it prevents false alarms caused by minor pressure surges in the municipal water supply. Because the valve is epoxy coated inside and out, it resists rust and mineral buildup, ensuring that the internal flapper moves freely even after years of standby service. This reliability ensures that your fire alarm system will never fail to trigger when a steady flow of water is detected, protecting both lives and property.
Usage / How to Use
The Alarm Valve Model H is installed vertically in the main riser of a wet pipe sprinkler system. In a standby state, water pressure is equalized on both sides of the valve. When a fire occurs and a sprinkler head opens, the resulting steady flow of water causes the valve clapper to lift. This action directs a small portion of the water flow into the alarm port, filling the retard chamber and then flowing to the water motor gong and pressure switch. This hydraulically and electrically notifies building occupants and emergency services of the fire event.
